The Chevrolet Malibu has been on sale in the US market for years, so it was a great surprise when Chevrolet Europe announced , the Malibu would be coming to the UK and europe in 2013.

Already in Chevy_FansUK Blog I’ve told you about the Cruze Estate, and the Aveo SUV being launched into the European and UK market, so this will be the third Major release over here for Chevrolet in as many months.

This New car is really a direct replacement for the Chevrolet Epica, which was on sale over here for a short while, although never really proved a sales success.

As you can see from the picture left, the Malibu is final pre production stage, and was caught out testing with very little camouflage. The familiar Bowtie badge and trademark grille are clearly visible , also as with many new Chevrolet’s you can see the front lights merge into the wing and follow the high waist line all the way to the rear of the car.

The Designers say the new Malibu takes inspiration from the Camaro, and it’s plain to see with the cars angled coupe style windscreen pillars, roofline and beefy rear, Camaro inspired rear light clusters also feature. (below)

Chevrolet are only expected to offer Four cylinder engines in the New Malibu, with Normally aspirated 2.4L and 2.0L turbo charged ECOTEC units being mentioned. Other rumours of features such as Four wheel drive and possibility of a hybrid joining the Malibu range have also been mentioned.

The Malibu will also feature as mentioned before in my Blogs the Brand new MyLink media interface. This is Chevy’s Answer to iDrive In BMW’s and alike, Basically in a nut shell you can connect your smart phone to the system and connect to music files, the internet and even make calls, without touching your phone once . It is a big step forward for the Brand particularly in the UK market.

Malibu is expected to arrive in UK market by the end of 2012, although I’ve heard more like 2013 before the first cars start being delivered to customers in the UK.

here is  the teaser trailer for your enjoyment,

It’s a busy year ahead for Chevrolet with the proposed launch of yet another new model to their line up, pictures  shown here are of the Brand New Aveo SUV crossover undergoing testing. This is the model Chevrolet hope will take on the Nissan Juke and other Small SUVs being launched by sister company Vauxhall, and ford respectively in the coming year.

The car will be based on a stretched version of the current Aveo, and will feature the option of two-wheel and four-wheel drivetrains. Engine wise it’s expected Chevy may feature and new 1.6 Euro approved Diesel unit, and the possibility of new turbo petrol engines to meet strict Euro emission rules.

(picture right shows the rear of the car, you can see the familiar rear light cluster of current Aveo)

It is also expected that this could be the first Chevy in the UK to feature the New MyLINK digital interface system (shown Below), if you look closely at this picture (Left) you’ll notice the white surrounded screen in the centre of the dash. This interface will also feature heavily in the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu which is also coming to the UK.

The Aveo SUV will also spawn a Corsa SUV from Chevrolet’s sister company Vauxhall, so both cars should share a lot of the switch gear, running gear, and engine line up.

If you look at the picture at the top of our article you will notice a jacked up Meirva, which is rumoured to be the test mule for the Vauxhall version.

Enclosed are the concept versions of how the Aveo SUV may look. Although this will bel toned down slightly and will most likely feature a 5 door layout not shown on these images.

Aveo SUV is expected to be unveiled at the 2012 Paris motorshow

This is the first sneak peek of the new Chevrolet Cruze Estate, undergoing testing. The Cruze Estate will join the current Cruze family, which includes the saloon and the hatch back both currently on sale in the UK.

Despite the camouflage its clear to see the estate has kept the Cruze Family front end with trademark grille. Most of the camouflage is over the Rear to hide the key design features of the estate, although you can still get a feel for the lines of the new car. As you can see the estate has a sloping roofline from front to back , so id say the Cruze estate is more in the line of  Sports tourer, similar to its Astra tourer Sister of which it may share some key components.

(Here is also an artist impressions of the new cruze estate)

Cruze Estate is expected to be launched at the Geneva motor show in March 2012, although no prices or engines have been disclosed, I would expect the same range of petrol and diesels variant currently available in the rest of the cruze range to feature.

It’s not clear yet how many markets the Cruze Estate will feature in, although one thing to be assured it will be coming to the UK, and help Chevrolet break into the lucrative estate market

Its been a Busy Day testing for Chevrolet, in this picture you can see the models queuing up, I think the model featured Right will be the New Aveo SUV crossover, which I will give you details of as soon as I get them.

Spark has been with us for a few Years in europe and the uk now, looks like this could be a mid-life face lift to coincide with its launch in the U.S market. This will be the smallest car Chevrolet has ever sold in the U.S so the Facelift could be perfect timing

Note the much deeper front grill and slightly re-designed fog lights except from that Spark retains most the its original Beat Styling cues from concept stage.

It’s not clear whether these minor tweaks will make It to euro and UK market.

There Also plans for U.S Market to make an Electric Spark although currently Details are Scarce as to what this will involve will keep you updated.

Heres the teaser video for US spark

What we have found out about the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7:
Chassis: This model will also keep a front engine and a rear transaxle. We are not really expecting any drastic changes to occur really. However, we do feel as though this model may shed some of its mass.
Design: We have noticed that the headlight elements are narrower and more complex than before. Also, we can see that the spaces between the bumps are wider and the panel even seems to be flatter. Not to mention the fact that the side mirrors are not as round as before and they also appear to be a tad larger.
Powertrain: When it comes to the source of power we figure that they are really going to be changing things up under the hood. Due to previous things that have taken place with GM we are expecting a 5.5 liter – 6.0 liter at the most – instead of the 6.2 in the base model.

More Details to follow soon Corvette C7 not expected untill 2014, so chevy really must be looking to make this corvette even better than ever.

So here goes

Knockhill circuit always proves a tough circuit for drivers and car especially if its wet.

FP1 Jason and Alex had a few laps in this run trying different things to find the best performance from the car, Jason did appear to be struggling in comparison with previous wet races keeping on pace with the S2000 NGTC engine hondas /fords and other NGTC Machines. Although a few Red Flags didn’t help with Mr Neate did love that first corner and the gravel, felt like giving him a bucket and spade.

FP2 was really along the same lines didn’t appear to be on the pace of the main front-runners, seen a lot of issues with understeer on both cars with Jason seeming to struggling for pace in relation to Alex at times who looked racy, more red flags during this one causing delays in flying laps for drivers pretty sure Mr Neate was behind a few of these as well.

Quali was very difficult for both Chevy drivers although it was on a dry track which I thought would benefit us after wet weather running, didn’t work out this way unfortunately, Chevrolet qualified  5th for JP and 8th for Alex Respectively down clearly to the torque and straight line pull of the front running Turbo cars. I know when you look at the times you think ahhh there aint much difference in that Alan But at knockhill the real Radio hairpin  goes uphill to the straight, now the Chevrolet aint a slow car but if you have a turbo  in a car it boasts torque and BHP, meaning it would have a much greater pull out that corner and up the hill, that’s where I feel we were loosing out. So based on that I thought maybe on race day this will change as in previous races. Jason did appear to have an engine change before race day as well due to performance issues so we had high hopes.

Race Day am afraid to say however was as feared the day before in the first two races don’t get me wrong it was action packed but I hate seeing my team struggle for performance, we can race Rob collard no probs that’s always exciting with the BMW driver, only really loosing out to him towards the end of the race where his rear wheel drive advantage really shows. But you could still see the pull out the hairpin corner of the turbos compared to the Chevrolet, then on the straights they pulled out further leads with the Chevrolet’s only closing on them under breaking. Race 1 Jason finished 7th, Alex dropped back to 12th although did have a few incidents, Race 2 Jason finished 7th in this race Alex failed to finish race 3 and had to retire issues with oil cooler leaking onto rear tyres and loosing grip.

Onto Race 3 High hopes on this JP got the break of reverse grid and got Pole, with Tom Boardman in his Seat Leon NGTC engine behind in second. So Race got under way Jason got a great start and kept the lead into the first corner Tom Right behind, now after first Lap Tom was rite behind jason based on the fact he has the dreaded Turbo, he gave jason a tap purely I feel because of the sheer speed he was gaining on the straight, second lap exactly the same although this time a lot more obv what Tom was trying to do, third lap he took a lot more speed into the first corner on Jason gave him a much harder tap knocked the back of the Chevrolet Cruze round and off into the barrier went JP. Now not only was it upsetting that Jason Was out for Chevrolet but also the way Tom took him out was totally unnesacary in my view he could have overtaken in time safely and kept a potential title winner on the track which he aint am afraid lets face it people, although he was keen to win first race.

On plus side Alex  fought his way  through from the back of the grid up to tenth with a superb drive, you have to commend his commitment at times on this race, pace he was taking through first 3 corners was imense at times real gutsy drive from him.

Now Last thing ill say at the start of the season Mr Gow said there will be parity between turbo and N/A now i know he has made strives but after knockhill it still apparent there is a clear dis advantage for the N/A cars running in the field.

Now before everyone says and im tired of hearing this Chevrolet had the chance to put a turbo in the car, as stated before in my article on here before to enter BTCC Chevrolet use WTCC cars and engine packages, the funding believe it or not isn’t as much as you think for a works team based on this, so going turbo this year really and I mean Really wasnt an option as far as I am aware, but if it was a fairer championship as Chevrolet were assured it would be we wouldn’t be discussing this would we?

Now I’m speaking purely as a fan, I feel this is spoiling the BTCC we need people like Jason up at the front in the mix with Neal and Shedden its all part of what makes BTCC what it is and we the fans are missing out on this due to what in my mind is a stupied decsion on the rules by TOCA.

So with the weather being so hot i though id just write a quick blog to basically praise and tell you about, why I love my Chevrolet Spark LT.

I’ve Had my Spark for jus over a year now, the thing that attracted me to the car was the way it looked,  for a small car it looks sporty stylish well made and different to the other Small cars out there, the other thing of course was its front just looks like its bigger brother the cruze from the front, and the fact I love Chevrolet racing and always wanted a Chevy.

There was a wide choice of models and colours available for the spark, base models start from £6995, i did drive this model which comes with the 1.0 engine with Air con, Electric windows six airbags and only aux and USB ports for your Ipod. When I got behind the wheel I couldn’t believe how fun the Spark was to drive the steering is light and responsive the gear change is smooth and slick and the ride is very comfortable and not juddery like another city car I can think of, not naming cough Kia Picanto lol. Inside is the biggest step forward for Chevrolet build quality is the best ive seen in a Chevrolet of this size and the trim feels well put together with no rattles or squeaks. now once id drove the spark I had to get one but which model?

I opted for the top spec Spark LT in moroccon Blue, with this I get sports front and back bumpers sport fog lights silver surround on the Chevy Grill, Climate control, electric mirrors, Heated mirrors Remote central locking, full electric windows.  With this model you get big car toys in a small and cool package, best thing is the climate control hence my thought in this heat to write this, no matter how hot or what temp you select it’s always bang on keeping you cool and comfortable, every time i look at the car i cant help think why do people buy anything else if they want a small city car.

Mines has covered jus over 20k and i am being honest here it feels as good to drive as it did when i bought it, ive had no issues with the car at all no rattles squeaks to report at all, I feel the 1.2 option is the best option to go for if you do a lot of motorway traveling which i do!, also as it is slightly quicker but there not a lot in it between the 1.0 engine. Two services have past and new issues atall to report outlying how reliable a Chevy can be. I will defo be buying another Chevrolet when im changing my car and i would love another Spark or possibly upgrade to the cruze but will just need to see what my life requires.

Chevrolet are really on the up these days with the Cruze, Spark,Orlando Captiva , and soon the Aveo. The badge is on the up in the uk and I think that if people stop thinking ohhh that’s just a Daewoo and realise its a totally different company now, and the cars are much better than the crap Daewoo made

Any car is worth a drive and I know you’ll be surprised.

thanks Alan ;-)

Hello Fellow Chevrolet fans, Just wanted to write a quick Blog regarding the engine Regulations in the BTCC and chevys choice not to run the NGTC engine this Year.

First thing Everyone has to be aware of is that the current BTCC setup uses the WTCC engines and chassis from the 2010 season, and it was exactly the same for the season before this. Further More with that in mind this means they have a ready supply of parts and engines for use in the BTCC.

Now i can see the case to use the NGTC engine although the chassis this year jus isnt setup for it at all and with RML being such a professional and dedicated team there was no way they would buy an engine to use they would rather use their own and develop it themselves . Now from a company point of view if you had a product ready-made and ready to use would you replace this, the answer is no why because of money.

The thing that upsets me is Toca said there would be no performance difference between S2000 spec that Chevrolet run and NGTC now clearly there is, although capping boast and lowering weight have been made, torque wise the turbo is still the stronger of the two untits, now we did see the chevrolet of plato take pole at Croft but in the race Plato simply couldn’t overtake the turbo car of  Tony Gilham is this really fair racing?  I personally don’t think so.

As you may or not be aware the WTCC Cruze use a 1.6 turbo unit which was developed for months in the car before use in the championship, hence why they are dominating the WTCC currently they have jumped the rest of the field in prep stakes. Now with that if chevrolet were to enter next year the worry we have as fans is that they either stick with what we have this season in S2000 spec or they develop a full new NGTC spec car why you might ask? I have already had it comfirmed that the current WTCC turbo Cruze just simply would not take the 2.0 turbo NGTC engine.

So people may say chevrolet have no right to moan but if I was a fan, and iam a big chevrolet RML fan I’d want this season to be closer or we might jus lose a great RML run Chevrolet team from BTCC.

thanks for reading Team Chevywave Alan ;-)
